Why VECO Indonesia renamed to Rikolto Indonesia?

There are several practical reasons for the change of name Rikolto as follows:

  1. In Belgium, the name Vedeseilandenveco has been widely known by the public, about 75% of Belgian people know the logo. But still many people in Belgium think that our scope of work is the field of humanity and peace ('Vredeseilanden' can be translated 'Peace Island')

  2. Our name also has a contingent connotation focusing on charity activities that can be a barrier to network development.

  3. At the international level, there is confusion between the use of Vredeseilanden and VECO. In Belgium we are known as Vredeseilanden while in seven regional offices in other countries we are known as VECO which stands for 'VredesEilanden Country Office'

  4. VECO as a name does not contain deep meaning

Why Rikolto was chosen as the new name?

Rikolto means 'harvest' in Esperanto language. It is because we want farmers to have abundant crops, but also because we want to 'harvest' new ideas and solutions to improve the performance of our food system.

Does the name change means that the organisation also changes its legal entity?

No. Currently our status is still an International NGO. However, we hope that in the future we aim to register Rikolto Indonesia into a local foundation in Indonesia.

What is the legal basis for Rikolto's cooperation with the Government of Indonesia?

  • Cooperation with the Directorate General of Village Administration (Ditjen Bina Pemdes) - formerly DG PMD - under the coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs since 1998.
  • The MoU for 3 years (2014-2016), has been extended on January 16, 2017 for the next 3 (2017-2020) period.

What is Rikolto's new tagline?

In Indonesia, Rikolto's tagline is "How is our Food Future?". This tagline presents the issues of sustainability and inclusion in food systems championed by Rikolto.

What is Rikolto's new logo?
