The importance of quality control in a fermented cocoa business

Romeo cocoa farmers' cooperative was formed in 2016 with the aim of improving the welfare of cocoa farmers in Sikka District of East Nusa Tenggara Province.

Following the establishment of the cooperative, Romeo started its fermented cocoa business. Throughout 2018, Rikolto helped Romeo find buyers and we finally did. However, farmers were not able to provide fermented cocoa beans on time and the quality did not meet the standards. This hard-earned lesson taught Romeo to improve its quality control processes and reach out to more farmers to do proper drying and fermentation.
