The demand for rice in Indonesia is growing from year to year, while production is slowly decreasing. Farmers in Central Java are able to increase their supply, however, they produce low quality rice and face many production challenges. In response to this, since November 2015, Rikolto with the Premium Rice Consortium funded by the Netherlands' FDOV established a public private partnership (PPP) to improve farmers' income.
Through the program, we train and coach farmers in 29 districts in Central Java to use certified seeds, organic fertilisers, and pesticides so as to improve the production and marketing of high premium rice.
